Of course, France bails on standing up to Hezbollah in Lebanon. AFP explains:

Despite expectations that France would provide the bulk of a planned 15,000 strong UN force, Paris said Thursday it would send 200 troops to reinforce the UN mission in Lebanon. While it said France was prepared to command the enlarged force, it also called for safety guarantees for its soldiers before making further commitments.

The spirit of de Gaulle is alive and well: the French are happy to order everyone else around; just don't expect them to carry any water. Give them points for consistency. But wait! France has doubled its commitment to 400 troops. As Ben Stein would say, wow.

More French idiocy:

Alliot-Marie said troop contributions to the expanded UNIFIL force should come from a great number of countries, both in Europe and the Muslim world.

"What we must absolutely avoid is giving the image of a Western world imposing peace on the Muslim world," she said.

Contribute 1.3 percent of a supposed fifteen thousand-man UN force to "control" south Lebanon, gloss over the part about disarming the terrorists infesting the country, demand safety for your troops, disclaim the "mission" part of the mission statement, then declare yourself the mission "leader". Could that be anyone but the French?

I pray the Israelis are using the time to plan their next engagement with Hezbollah while these idiots play with their matches.

Note to France: reality matters.
