Correcting The Slanders Of The Left

Opinion Journal's Peter Wehner shows how easy it is to get the facts straight and stop being an anti-war idiot in "Revisionist History - Antiwar myths about Iraq, debunked":
Iraqis can participate in three historic elections, pass the most liberal constitution in the Arab world, and form a unity government despite terrorist attacks and provocations. Yet for some critics of the president, these are minor matters. Like swallows to Capistrano, they keep returning to the same allegations--the president misled the country in order to justify the Iraq war; his administration pressured intelligence agencies to bias their judgments; Saddam Hussein turned out to be no threat since he didn't possess weapons of mass destruction; and helping democracy take root in the Middle East was a postwar rationalization. The problem with these charges is that they are false and can be shown to be so--and yet people continue to believe, and spread, them.
It's a quick and clean teardown of the Bush-haters' boilerplate propaganda. I quibble with the author's misuse of the term "myth", because a myth by definition contains one or more universal truths and is usually a Disney property, whereas the charges Wehner debunks fall far short of that; they are simply falsehoods and lies, perpetuated by charlatans and ravenously consumed by ignorant fools.

HT: the eeeevil Hugh Hewitt, who suggests: "And then add in Ralph Peter's 'Defeating Terror.' (HT: RealClearPolitics.)"

Comments:
As an anti-war leftie, I have to say, that column resembled bush's pre-war proclamations: full of lies, ommisions and half-truths that anyone aware of the facts would be able to see right through. I'm not going to bother going over each point in detail, but the column doesn't address ANY of the EVIDENCE behind the leftwing claims that he's trying to debunk. What about the fact that their were two NIEs? What about the downing street memo? What about the fact the Pat Roberts has yet to investigate pre-war intelligence? (remember Harry Reid shutting down the Senate for secret session to push this issue?)

You have to ignore a lot of inconvenient truths to accept Wehner's bullshit.

Wehner's column is "full of lies, half -truths and ommisions(sic)" but you're "not going to bother to go over them"? It is you who ignores inconvenient truths in order to prop up your own bullshit.

Anyone who still grasps at the left's ongoing sophistry on such piffle as the Downing Street memo- let me guess, it's about the "fixed intelligence", isn't it?- is neither informed nor serious. Wehner is both.

Anonymous, go watch this and then tell me Saddam should still be in power: http://www.defenddemocracy.org/about_FDD/about_FDD_show.htm?doc_id=342556
