Dogma Bites Manhattan
Do you live in New York and write for the MSM about how much you hate Dubya? You must be one of these poor souls: Naomie Emery, writing in the Weekly Standard, chronicles the rash of weird statements by the left in the wake of the Iraqi elections. The following quotes expose the agonizing contortions of thought required to meet the strict ideological confines of the committed anti-Bush-at-any-cost, anti-democratic, passively-pro-jihadi leftist:
"The success of the elections poses a major intellectual-moral political problem for people in this city. Now the people of this Bush-hating city are being forced to grant the merest possibility that Bush, despite his annoying manner…hubris and dissembling and incompetence…just might--might possibly--have been correct to invade, to occupy, and to try to enable a democratically elected government in Iraq." -- Kurt Andersen, New York Magazine
"Every Bush hater you meet in New York is engaged in an inner struggle of how much to let go of the past… Liberals don't want to be left spreading the grumpy notion that liberty can't travel, even if it turns out to be true. If all the fake rationales and pigheaded ideology and bungled management that took us into the debacle of the war end up with the vibrant images we saw on Sunday at the Iraqi polls, then, well, maybe there's something to be said for the blank slate of the president's historical memory." -- Tina Brown, WaPo
And now this demented epiphany has spread to the UK:
“The war was a reckless, provocative, dangerous, lawless piece of unilateral arrogance. But it has nevertheless brought forth a desirable outcome which would not have been achieved at all, or so quickly, by the means that the critics advocated, right though they were in most respects.”-- Martin Kettle, The Guardian
Thankfully, we are witnessing the collapse of this mindset that tells us to hate Bushitler, despise and obstruct Amerika, and leave Islamofascists free to connect with their inner demented killers.
And as Jack Kelly explains, we are also witnessing the collapse of the enemy in Iraq:
“While the Left still focuses on Wars for Oil and pipelines, the revenge of the stupid son, phony death tolls in Iraq, American Imperialism, LIES about WMD, BusHitler’s failed diplomacy and a host of other nonsense, real change is occurring in the Middle East - democratic change from Afghanistan and Iraq to Lebanon and Egypt. Perhaps the Left can explain how these changes would have occurred without the commitment to fight in Iraq.”
